Helping the Rohingya Find a Home

The severe persecution of Rohingya in Myanmar has brought some 12,000 of them to the United States, where they seek new homes, new lives, and citizenship rights that have long eluded them. Many have settled in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, among other cities.

In a small Houston apartment, a young Rohingya refugee family hears Global Gates missionaries share the Gospel. “This is the first time we have heard this message,” they say.

In Grand Rapids, Michigan, another missionary met a young Rohingya man named Syed. When the conversation turned to the Good News of Jesus, he asked. “So, Jesus takes my sin and gives me His goodness?” When he heard some verses from the audio Bible in Rohingya, he exclaimed, “Alhamdulilah (Praise be to God). This is my language. How can I get this?”

God uses connections like these in the U.S. to bring displaced Rohingya people to faith in Christ across North America. Missionaries have also reached more than 600 newly baptized Rohingya believers in Bangladesh.

Pray that Rohingya will experience the hope the Apostle Paul described: “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him” (Acts 17:26-27).

  • Pray that more believers would befriend and share the Gospel with Rohingya refugees in the U.S. (Matt. 9:36-38).
  • Pray that Rohingya refugees may find both earthly and heavenly homes (Heb. 11:14-16).
  • Pray that Rohingya refugees resettled especially in Western countries would embrace the Gospel and share it with their distant relatives.
